NASA as a Public Relations Machine

Recently I was one of 25 people selected to attend NASA’s Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) Media Day at their location in Goddard, Maryland.  Aside from learning about the MMS, I also got to look at how NASA cultivates public relations and provides professional development for their scientist and engineers. Attention big companies – take a page from NASA on how to run a successful and informative media day.

Public Speaking – How Improv Classes Can Lessen the Terror

For many people, speaking in public (let alone acting) is a major struggle; for others it’s just sheer terror. When I’m giving a speech in front of a lot of people, I think back to my improvisation (or “improv”) days for help. I’ve attended many improv classes and workshops and, as strange as it might seem to some, they helped me with public speaking. It’s all about letting go of one’s inhibitions.
