While the competition will be stiff, here is a look at some of the fastest growing sectors in the world and how potential employees can edge out the competition for the top spots.

1. Senior Care

Reports released by the Administration on Aging show that persons over the age of 65 will go from just 12 percent of the total population to well over 19 percent by 2030. This change in our population almost guarantees that senior care will be one of the fastest growing sectors in the coming years. Senior care involves a wide variety of career paths and skill sets ranging from live-in caretakers and geriatric specialists to retirement fund managers and senior community advisers.

2. Water

It is an odd notion to think of water as an industry in and of itself, but the need to manage and supply water is more important than ever. Some estimates show that “green” water jobs will grow by as much as 50 percent in the next few years alone. These jobs will need to be filled by highly trained professionals who understand the need for clean water and have the drive to invent new solutions for growing problems, such as contaminated ground water. Other jobs in this field will require professionals to overhaul the current infrastructure for water in order to make it more eco-friendly.

3. Motion Capture Technology

In 2014, the motion capture industry was estimated to be worth over $1.24 billion. While this number does seem staggering, many experts are claiming that it will grow by over 65 percent in the next five years alone. Currently, motion capture technology is mostly being used within the field of entertainment, but that could change as more advances are made. Motion capture technology could soon be adopted into everyday healthcare practices to diagnose and treat mobility problems.

4. Peer-to-Peer Lending Platforms

In the last few years, few ideas have changed the worldwide economy as dramatically as peer-to-peer lending. Instead of looking for large investors or heading into a bank for potentially risky loans, entrepreneurs are now looking to everyday people to invest in their company or idea. The key with peer-to-peer lending is finding ways to cut down on overhead for the platform and reduce the risks for investors. This growing field is in need of financially savvy professionals that can look at the market as a whole when it comes to each new idea.

5. Healthcare

Our healthcare system is struggling to keep up with the demands of a growing population, so much so that a medical career remains one of the most available and stable jobs out there. You can begin a serious career in healthcare with even just an associate’s degree. You can also take it further, become a doctor, and even choose to specialize in a particular field such as maternal-fetal medicine. “Maternal-fetal specialists work with women with high-risk pregnancies early on throughout their pregnancy and help them come up with solutions that will minimize their risks before and during the birth,” says Dr. Gilbert Webb, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist in St. Louis.

6. Big Data

This seems like an obvious industry to mention when it comes to growth, but there are still surprisingly few students that are training for the big data industry. More companies and organizations than ever are realizing just how important big data is to their success, and this means that they will need specialists that are able to collect, store, analyze and even protect this information on and off-site.

The past few decades have revealed some tremendous changes in the global economic climate. Employees that would like to make the most out of these monumental shifts for their own career path may want to consider these six sectors that are showing great potential.
