Spread Good News to Your Colleagues by Creating a Weekly Newsletter

On average I read through more than 12 news publications a day. I like to know what is current in my industry, both education and writing, and I like to see what’s going on in the U.S. and around the world. With this being such a big part of my day it gets disheartening when most of what I read and see is negativity. Reports on violence, economic downturn, profit loss, bullying, you name it. What gets me through the pessimism and despair is my weekly newsletter I send out for work. It’s how I let my co-workers know about accomplishments, and goals being met.

There’s a niche for a newsletter in any industry. If you work for a trucking line, you can talk about ways you’ve been saving money on gas on long hauls, or improvements for optimizing cargo space for shipments. For those in typical desk jobs, focus on the work being done well within your team, and any partnerships with other departments. Clear the idea with your manager first, and I would suggest sending to your immediate department to start with. It’s a great way to connect with the people that you work with, and to let them know what you’re up to.  Save the negativity for the news, and 1:1 emails.
