Your Interview Dress Style: Should You Suit Up?

By Online Career Tips Staff

Do you have an interview coming up? If so, the first thing you’ll need to do is research the company and be sure you have a good understanding of the company background. Then you’ll need to consider how you’ll dress for the  interview. There will be a lot going through your mind prior to the interview, so we’ve come up with some basic guidelines to help you out!

First and foremost, make sure your hygiene is up to par. It goes without saying you’ll need to shower the day of the interview so you’ll feel fresh. Be sure to pay attention to your nails! This applies to both men and women; brush at minimum and clean the undersides of your nails. (Think potential handshakes). Also, brush your teeth. Fresh breath is a must!

For an interview, you will want to dress business professional. Men, this means suit up! You’ll feel way more confident in a well-fitting suit but be sure to keep it to a navy blue, black, or grey color. If you want to spruce it up, pick a nice, complimentary shirt color or tie. Ladies, I’d recommend a suit as well. Keep the colors conservative as well and you can add your personality by wearing a tasteful neck scarf or jewelry.

On that note, remember less is more in regards to not only jewelry but also makeup. Keep it neutral and natural. This will allow your interview to be about you and not the color your eye shadow is. It will probably be helpful to layout whatever you’re going to wear the day before so you’re not scrambling the morning of to figure out what could go together. Remember the best thing to wear is confidence! Please look out for our podcast on this topic to come next week!
