Crafting is all the rage now. With the advent of Pinterest and everyone having their own DIY blog, you can’t throw a sewing needle without hitting more ideas to make more knick-knacks for your house. It’s great, and it also proves that you can do so much with very little. Even green projects aren’t just about just about being eco-friendly, it’s about being resourceful without having to make an extra trip to the crafting store.

I get creative and crafty when I can’t solve an issue in the office. Whether it’s a project with too many variables, or a promotional technique that really isn’t drawing any interest, there is always a solution or a temporary bandaid to fix it.

For example, if you have a task to continually create new initiatives for your department create a board in your Pinterest account for that. If you’re not on Pinterest, recycle old ideas from a couple years ago or from your predecessor. You can recycle old memos and make a collage out of them, or cut out the useful evergreen chunks and fasten them to a corkboard for inspiration.

If you have a problem prioritizing then create colorful folders that separate your tasks in terms of importance. You can recycle your old business cards for labels too.

What it comes down to is you’re repurposing items that may have had one purpose, and you’re giving it a second life…much like the project or problem you may be stuck on. Break out of the linear model and utilize more right brain thinking in your everyday work, it may reap some very fruitful results.
