The average professional athlete’s career is over by age 33. For physically-demanding sports, such as professional football, it’s as young as 28. Deciding what comes next can be difficult.

As a professional athlete, or a college athlete preparing to make the jump to the next level, it is important to remember that in addition to a vigorous training schedule that keeps you at the top of your physical game, you must take the time to think about a life without sports.

Panelists for this event:

  • Levon Kirkland
    Played 11 years in the NFL, including nine with the Pittsburgh Steelers; a two-time Pro Bowl selection; two-time Steelers team MVP; NFL 1990s All-Decade team; Played in Super Bowl XXX; Educates student-athletes across the country on the college recruiting process as an Educational Speaker for the National Collegiate Scouting Association; Currently works at Clemson University where he coordinates minority recruitment in the admissions office; current APU student pursuing a Master’s Degree in Sports Management.
  • Stan Brock
    A first round draft pick by the New Orleans Saints, played 16 years in the NFL; also played for the Chargers, including Super Bowl XXIX; Head Coach at United States Military Academy at West Point for 2 seasons; current Director of Employee Development and Coaching with the Benchmade Knife Company.
  • Willie Pile
    Played 2 years in the NFL – drafted by Kansas City Chiefs, one season with the Dallas Cowboys; currently playing for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League; current APU student pursuing a Master’s Degree in Sports Management.
