Be Innovative: Take the Initiative and Move Your Group Forward

A lot of the ingenious designs and ideas you see today were crafted from people who thought there could be a better way of doing something. Even with a busy schedule it’s possible to be innovative with processes at your work.

You can start by making a 2 column list. On the left column label it “daily/regular tasks”, and the second column “improvements for new tasks.” Write your tasks in the first column, then expand to the next column what kind of process, or technology or innovation would make it better or bring in more ROI. If you want to a step further, include more tasks from others in your department, and also what could streamline it or bring in more return.

Once the list is complete take the time to look into each of your suggestions. Do research. If you find a new product on the market that’s in beta, try signing up for a free trial to see if it’s even worth pitching to your group. No idea here is too small, so make sure to take a few minutes of your downtime at work to do this, or if you’re too busy use some of your lunchtime. It shows your boss that you have initiative and you want to move the company forward.
