Flopped the Interview? Learn From Your Mistakes

Even if you didn’t do your best, it doesn’t mean you can’t learn from it. Make a mental list of your “trips” during your interview and review what went wrong. Did you talk to much when they asked you a personal question? Did you stumble over your qualifications making you look inexperienced? Either way, it’s a learning experience. Use these errors to flip into a winning combination the next time you interview.

Using Social Media to Land a Long Distance Opportunity

Put social media to work for you in your long distance job hunt!

Social Media is not just Farmville and seeing what your friends were up to over the weekend. Even though some of these uses of social media are enjoyable, if you are using social media to just this capacity you are truly missing out on a wealth of opportunity. 

One large opportunity with social media is using it as a tool to leverage opportunities in today’s tough job market. We all know that in today’s job market you have to be creative. But how creative do you have to be to land your dream job when you are sitting in your apartment in New York City and you are trying to catch the eye of a hiring manager thousands of miles away in Portland, Oregon? 

When applying for non-local jobs you are already placing yourself at a small disadvantage. When a non-local manager sees your resume’ for the first time, one of the first things they are going to notice is that you are a non-local candidate which may throw up a red flag. Red flags are definitely not a good thing when applying for a job but there are ways that you can minimize those red flags with social media.
