Staying Inspired Through the Holidays

Holiday seasonBy Nichole Ahlstrom

With the holiday season quickly approaching, your educational agenda may threaten to disappear. The hustle and bustle of shopping, parties, children home on vacations, traveling, family, etc., can leave you feeling lost when it comes time to studying and attending class. There are ways to enjoy your loved ones and keep your education on track, too.

I have experienced being pulled in a million directions–during the holidays and at other times–while accomplishing absolutely nothing. Throughout my experiences with managing a family, work, and my education, I have come to realize that breathing and taking time to prioritize my goals and obligations is key.

Personally, I am a huge fan of planners and note taking; without these key tools in my life, I would be lost.

Attending college during the holidays can become a chore all in itself. However, think of your education as a gift. I know that this may seem senseless to some, but if you have a true aspiration for success you will understand the meaning behind this.

Your education is a gift in the sense that not everyone is allowed the opportunity to attend college. Possessing a college education enables a person to have balance and security and be self-reliant. Remember, the holiday season is not about receiving gifts; it is about giving and sharing with others the love and knowledge you have.

A great way to celebrate your education this holiday season is to wrap up a textbook, your course schedule, a test, or something else related to your schoolwork and place the box under the tree. On Christmas morning, open your gift. I believe that when the box is opened, you will have a smile on your face and you will be grateful for the efforts you are making and your dedication to being successful.

Share your gift with others; tell your story. The true gift comes when you have inspired others to reach for the stars and to be extraordinary.
