Ace Your Interview With Body Confidence

Confidence comes from knowing who you are, and where your value lies. Looking great and professional helps a great deal, but it’s nothing if you don’t feel good about what you’re wearing and how you look.

A new study by Harvard Medical School researcher Nancy Etcoff suggests that a woman wearing makeup can improve your chances at an interview. There is some truth to the cosmetic commercials when they tell you that you’ll feel 10x more confident with a new shade of lipstick, or by wearing a little mascara. According to the study, the makeup can help to prove you’re competent, likable, and trustworthy. While I believe it creates a more idealized version of yourself, I can definitely see and feel the difference when I “make” myself up before an interview.

For men, it could be trimming up your facial hair, and trying a cleaner hairstyle. Your clothes set the tone as well. You don’t need to be a suit loving person, so instead pull out a confident outfit. It could be something you’ve worn several times, and maybe that’s the push you need to boost your self esteem. If you’re uncomfortable in what you’re wearing and how you look your interviewer will notice. If what you wear and how you look puts a smile on your face as you walk out your door, it may make others smile as well.

The key here is to present yourself as you normally would, with an extra something. Whether that “extra” is a touch of makeup, your best shoes, or a special tie clip, just make sure it’s something that gives you confidence.
